Plastic Injection Molding in China
Plastic injection molding is important manufacturing process for large volume production of plastic parts. How plastic injection molding work?
At a certain temperature, completely molten plastic material stirred and heated by a screw is injected into mold cavity. After pressure holding, cooling and solidification, the injection molded plastic part is released from mold and gained. Injection molding process has 6 stages below:
- Mold clamping
- Injection
- Pressure holding
- Cooling
- Mold opening
- Release of injection molded part

The above process is repeated, and the product can be periodically produced in batches.
Materials used in plastic injection molding

The temperature to be controlled during plastic injection molding includes barrel temperature, nozzle temperature and mold temperature. The first two temperatures primarily affect the plasticization and flow of the plastic, while the latter temperature primarily affects the flow and cooling of the plastic.
Precision plastic injection molding refers to the plastic processing process that the dimensional accuracy of plastic products produced by injection molding machine equipment can reach 0.01mm or less, usually between 0.01mm and 0.001mm. Precision plastic injection molding is mainly used in industrial and civil products such as aerospace, automotive parts, precision instruments, sports equipment, testing tools.
ABS resin is a terpolymer developed on the basis of modification of polystyrene resin. Wherein A represents acrylonitrile, B represents butadiene, and S represents styrene. ABS resin has the comprehensive properties of three components. A can improve oil resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, and thus has a certain surface hardness; B makes ABS rubbery toughness and improves impact toughness; S makes ABS plastic appear good fluidity, giving it good performance in thermoplastic plastic injection molding. ABS plastic is mainly used in China to manufacture the outer casing of instrumentation, household appliances, telephones, televisions, etc. and ABS plastic for electroplating, which gives it a metallic luster and is used to replace metal. Injection molding is the main molding method of ABS plastic.
Injection pressure is provided by the hydraulic system of the injection molding system. The pressure of the hydraulic cylinder is transmitted to the plastic melt through the screw of the injection molding machine. Under the pressure, the plastic melt enters the main runner and the branch runner of the mold through the nozzle of the injection molding machine, and then enters mold cavity through gate. This process is the injection process, or the filling process. The existence of pressure is order to overcome the resistance during the melt flow, or conversely, the resistance present during the flow process needs to be offset by the pressure of the injection molding machine to ensure a smooth filling process.
