Injection molds for export VS Injection molds for stay-in-house production
We have shipped many injection molds to US before, but for all of these molds, customer would let us know in advance the mold will be shipped to US for production, so the mold was designed in DME standard, not LKM standard in China. We assume the production will be in house so the mold was designed and made to adapt to our machine. If customer wants to run the mold in US, we have to make sure the mold can adopt the molder's machine in US.
Mold shipped to European must be in HASCO standard, mold shipped to US must be DME standard, mold in Asia usually LKM standard.
In addition, the price could be 2-3 times differences. For the production mold, we try to make the mold as cheap as possible but parts comes out the mold must be good enough, this is the bottom line. Sometimes, we use hand load core (you knew it), or slightly smaller size steel/plate, or cheap steel, aluminum, and we can customized all the mold components or use the easiest alternative solution. For export mold, for example, mold made to run in US, we need to make it DME standard, we need to buy mold base from LKM--the biggest and best mold base supplier in Asia, we need to use the ejector pins, slider limitation part...etc...in INCH standard so that customers can easily get replacement at local when the mold run in US, even the packing /processing process/documentation ...are different.
If the production volume is high, exceed 50K to 100K, the best way would be just purchasing molds from us and do molding in US. If the production volume less than 20K, we propose to do molding in our factory. Of course, that's just our proposal, all decisions up to the customers after the quotation made.

Plastic injection molding is a commonly used method of producing plastic parts. However, for a startup company, there are always a lot of questions to figure out. ACO MOLD has done many cases for startup companies and found they have many common questions.
What is modified plastic?
Plastic modification is the modifying the performance of the plastic with physical or chemical method to obtain a modified plastic resin, and then subjected to extrusion, injection molding, calendering and other processes to obtain modified plastic products. The excellent modified plastic products are widely used in home appliances, automobiles, construction and other industries. And make it lower cost, improved performance or make it total new functional.
Surface treatment is a process which to a different layer on the top surface of the substrate material, usually it is different mechanical, physical and chemical properties from the substrate. The purpose of surface treatment is to meet the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, decoration or other special functional requirements of the product, also known as secondary processing.
We have been receiving inquiries from clients who are not familiar with injection mold and injection molding, so a frequently asked question is what files do you need to get me a quote?
Well, it depends on what you need, if you look for injection mold only and you plan to do injection molding on your own, then it is more about the mold itself, we focus on the mold specification, here is an examples of a US customer who needs a quote for an injection mold.

The development direction of the automotive industry is second, miniaturization, light weight and diversification, and research on plastic-based steel in automotive applications has become very positive. At present, domestic automotive plastics account for 7% of the total materials, and Germany's proportion is 15%. We need to do more research and development, to make structure design, polymer choice simultaneous developing with the automotive industry.
The main function of engineering plastics for automobiles is to make cars lightweight, so as to achieve high fuel economy. Applied plastics for the automotive industry include nylon, polyester, polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, andpolyphenylene ether.
Developed countries take the amount of plastics used in automobiles as an important indicator to measure the level of automobile design and manufacturing. The world's single amount of automotive plastics is in Germany, and plastics account for 15% of the total materials. In recent years, China's automobile industry has developed rapidly. At present, the annual output of automobiles exceeds 4 million. According to the forecast of foreign plastics consumption, the annual use of modified plastics in the automotive industry is over 500,000 tons, of which engineering plastics account for a large proportion. The performances of the five engineering plastics are different, and their use in automobiles is also different.
Let’s take one of the projects we have done for example.
Before injection mold making, ACOMOLD will do DFM (Design for manufacturability) analysis report on the plastic parts such as parting line, gate location, draft angle, wall thickness and so on to help optimize the design.
As usual, we mentioned the non-uniform wall thickness to the customer. However, we were told that the sink mark is ok, so we proceed with the mold making. When T1 samples finished, we found that there is severe sink mark on the L part while the R part is perfect.
There are three kinds of methods of injection molded prototype forming in common. Usually we used SLA for our prototype.
Following are the principle, advantage and disadvantage of each of the method.
FDM(Fused Deposition Modeling)。
FDM heats and melts the thermoplastic material, and form a layer by the 3D nozzles controlled by the computer, which is
according to the section profile. When the one layer finished, the working table will be lower and make the next layer until the whole part is completed.

We did a successful mold making & injection molding project for US Company before. This plastic part is for recreational use, so it is required to be durable, but slightly flexible and avoid breaking. So we proposed to use PP material for plastic injection molding. PP is hard plastic material but a little bit flexible and not easy to break. PP injection molding material was approved by customer.
The time required to complete once injection molding process is called the injection molding cycle. Injection molding cycle directly affects labor productivity and equipment utilization. Therefore, in the production process, the relevant time in the injection molding cycle should be shortened as much as possible under the premise of ensuring the quality of injection molded plastic parts.
The properties of the material itself must be achieved by proper heat treatment in mold making. Only good heat treatment can achieve our expected performance expectations. According to the performance requirements of mold materials, the heat treatment methods are mainly high temperature quenching, cryogenic treatment, high temperature tempering, and repeated many times. Go through these different heat treatments, to achieve the best mold performance.
Mold temperature refers to the external surface temperature of the mold cavity thatis in contact with the article during plastic injection molding. Because itdirectly affects the cooling rate of the plastic parts in mold cavity, it has agreat influence on the intrinsic performance and appearance quality of theinjection molded plastic parts.
